Overview of the Course

1) For Whom is the Training Intended?
The students may vary from office personnel to occupational health personnel to law enforcement officers. There is no restriction on who can become a BAT or a trainer. The principles and procedures of this training can be readily grasped by anyone of average competence provided they are willing to devote the effort to participate and practice.

2) What is the Purpose of the Training?
The purpose of this course is to prepare BAT's to properly conduct a breath test in accordance with the US Department of Transportation's (DOT) Alcohol Testing Procedures Rule: 49CFR Part 40. The course is also designed for the student to become proficient in the operation of the breathalyzer, equipment and breath alcohol testing forms.

3) What will the student get out of the training course?
They will gain knowledge about DOT/Non DOT workplace alcohol misuse prevention rules. They will become familiar with the evidential breath testing devices and functions they perform. They will understand and be able to conduct breath tests according to DOD and Non DOT rules; which includes being able to record and interpret breath test results. They will understand disclosure of information, record keeping and confidentiality.

4) What subject matter does the course cover?
The course covers all aspects of workplace alcohol testing DOT/Non DOT.

5) Certification Records:
Each student, upon successfully completing the course, will receive certificates of proficiency and certification.
