Urine Drug Screening Collector Certification Course

Overview of the Course

1) What is the Purpose of the Training?
The purpose of the course is to prepare UDS Collectors to properly conduct screening collections in accordance with the Department of Transportation Workplace Substance Abuse (Drug) Testing Rule: 49 CFR Part 40 (382.101).

2) What will the student get out of the training course?
They will gain a knowledge of DOT Workplace Substance Abuse Testing Rule. They will become familiar with the chain of custody. They will understand and conduct urine drug specimen collections according to DOT Drug Specimen collection Procedures. This includes; properly instructing employees on collection process, being able to complete the collection process and chain of custody forms, circumstances under which records are maintained and disclosure of records and confidentiality of test results.

3) What subject matter does the course cover?
The course presents the 49 CFR Part 40 procedural requirements applicable to UDSC's in a clear convincing manner. It includes background information on Workplace Controlled Substance Abuse, proper control and handling of specimens, shipping of specimens, shy bladders, testing requirements and locations and refusals.

4) How long does the training take?
The curriculum consists of three units that span eight hours of instruction. There is also a proficiency training session that consists of learning objectives for achieving proficiency. This unit is required training that each UDSC must complete.

5) Is there a certification for the training?
Participants successfully completing the Urine Drug Screening Collector Course receive a certificate on proficiency and procedures in accordance with DOT Workplace Controlled Substance Abuse collection procedures.
